Monika Frei - Marketing Support
Monika never even dreamt of working on a remote island in Indonesia, but life has a way of taking care of itself…
She was born and raised in Zurich, Switzerland. Her father being an airline pilot for Swissair, travelling was basically part of her upbringing. She soon developed a strong interest in languages and studied translation in Geneva. However, she never worked as a translator as she felt that sitting behind dictionaries was not her thing. She preferred to be in contact with people. After moving back to Zurich, she started working in communications and marketing for the music industry and concert promoters and also got a diploma in public relations. After her two children were born, she took up a marketing position in the film industry and worked for Universal Pictures for over 10 years. Having to deal with her children’s food allergies, she developed an interest in nutrition and decided to go back to school to become a nutritionist. She ran her own nutrition consulting cabinet, but decided to go back to marketing after four years and got an Executive MBA degree in Marketing in 2016. Monika started diving a long time ago on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, but only practiced it once every few years while on holiday in warm waters. When a mutual friend of hers and Maya’s told her about the open marketing position at Raja4Divers, she thought it a crazy idea at first, but still checked out the website and fell in love with the resort immediately. Her family and friends encouraged her to take the position and promised to come and visit her as often as possible. Monika speaks German, English, French, Italian and Spanish. And after 2 years, she finally managed to pick up a little Indonesian as well… She is now back in Switzerland, pursuing other dreams, but still supports us with translations or anything to do with writing and languages. |
Monika:
“I guess my friends thought I was a little crazy to come and work in such a remote place, but I think I would have been crazy not to do it. I love new adventures and this is definitely one of the best kinds you can get!”
