Raja Ampat's incredible topside scenery is only the beginning...
Snorkeling in Paradise |
|
Snorkelling around Pulau Pef offers one of the biggest varieties anywhere in Raja Ampat. The water temperature is around 28°-30°C all year round and underwater visibility varies between 10 - 30m due to very nutrient rich water.
Start with the house reef, offering perfect snorkelling conditions with a great variety of fish, critters and beautiful corals, stretching almost all the way around the island. At times, a school of Batfish resides under the pier, while the rays of sun light stream into the water. In the mangrove bay, you will find a mystical scenery with Archer and Cardinal Fish in the roots of the mangroves. If you are lucky, you might even spot the endemic Epaulette Shark at night. There are many different snorkelling locations in the area around Pulau Pef, some of which can be reached comfortably by kayak. You will find colorful reefs and coral gardens and almost everything from little nudibranchs to majestic Manta Rays. It is not uncommon for snorkellers to see more variety of marine life than divers. |
Snorkellers are welcome to join the dive boats . These trips are included in the prepaid accommodation package.
Mixed diving / snorkelling couples will therefore be able to spend the day together on the same boat and enjoy a common experience. Our boat crew and snorkelling guides will bring snorkellers to alternative sites if a dive site is not suitable for snorkelling.
On a typical day, you will snorkel two different sites in the morning, with a 'Starbucks' break for coffee, tea and some snacks on a remote little island or near a Papuan village. In the afternoon, the boats leave for a third trip and if you're not tired yet, night snorkelling is also possible at the house reef at all times. Our dive center can provide you with dive lamps to rent.
We also offer rental equipment for snorkelling (masks, snorkels and fins) should you be unable to bring your own. Rashguards, leggings and lycra socks are available at our island shop and an SMB (Surface Marker Buoy) will be issued to you for the duration of your stay.
