Ocsienie Chrisvani Gomar - Resort Operations Manager
Ockie was born in Serui, Papua. Growing up, she got to move to other places in Indonesia such as Jayapura, Bali, Pontianak and Jakarta thanks to her father’s job at an airline company. And because of that too, since she was little, she really wanted to become a stewardess! She is convinced that’s where she picked up an interest in the service and hospitality industry. However, because she was too little at the time, she didn’t have a lot of courage and confidence to pursue this dream.
After finishing college, she worked at an oil construction company in Jakarta for 6 years. Her assigned tasks included jobs in various departments, such as QA/QC, Document Control and Procurement. Besides this 9-to-5 job, she also worked as a Team Building & Outdoor Activities Instructor on a freelance basis . This experience made her fall in love with outdoor and adventure activities. In her free time, she combined her traveling hobby with work by doing both solo travel and arranging group travels within Indonesia and Southeast Asia. In 2012, she decided to leave the big city with all the hustle and bustle and move to Bali, starting fresh and new. For the love of coffee, she got herself a job as a Café Manager at a coffee studio in Ubud. The following 3 years, she worked at a tour & travel agent as a Reservation & Operations Officer to deepen her experience in this field. When she saw the job opening at a resort in Raja Ampat, she felt the need to challenge herself to try it. Ockie worked for Raja4Divers for 2 years as Resort Operations Assistant. After that, she took some time off to travel and volunteer in Bali, Malaysia, Nepal and Canada. As she still kept a very close relationship with Maya, she came back to the resort to help out for a year, after which she got offered the position of Resort Operations Manager on a permanent contract. What Ockie enjoys most about working in Resort Operations is that her job includes indoor and outdoor tasks, be it behind a computer doing administrative work or around the resort, checking the bungalows and the restaurant, having discussions with the carpenter, or just spending time with the staff. An additional challenge, she thinks, is working and living on the island itself. This is why she always likes to exercise on her day off as a way to relax. Ockie speaks Indonesian, English and a little bit of Swiss German. |
Ockie:
"I know that I'm doing what I love and love what I do here. And to be able to do that in the region I grew up in is a great bonus!"
